Named for Galadriel, the elven queen who is ‘Lady of the Wood’ in J. R. R. Tolkien’s ‘Lord of The Rings’ trilogy. The wimple is a versatile garment that may be worn as a neckwarmer or hood.

Intermediate level knitters with experience of lace should find this project relatively easy. The pattern includes full written instructions and lace charts, and links to online tutorials for those techniques that are beyond advanced beginner level.

Suggested needle size is 2.25mm/US 1, or size required to get the correct tension/gauge. You will need one 40cm/16″ and one 60cm/24″ long circular. Tension/gauge is 32 stitches and 48 rounds to 10cm/4″ in unstretched stocking stitch/stockinette.

Yarn requirements are approximately 60– 70g/520 — 620m (569 — 678 yards) of a 2ply /laceweight yarn. The sample pictured was knitted with Lambswool 2ply from Texere Yarns, hand-dyed by my sister using British food colouring! The project also requires 48 size 6/0 seed beads.
