The pullover is knitted seamlessly in the round from the bottom up. It includes steeks for the armholes, and for the front and back necklines. The pattern provides full written instructions for each stage of the project, and a chart for the stranded fair isle pattern. For guidance with the advanced knitting techniques involved please see the tutorials at my Knitting School.
The pattern is graded for a range of ten sizes, from 32 to 50 inch chest circumferences. After blocking the pullover has 2.5cm/1″ of positive ease at the chest.
The pictured sample was made with Jamieson and Smith shetland jumnperweight. This is a 4ply/fingering weight wool yarn that comes in a wide variety of colours. You may substitute this with other 4ply/fingering weight wool yarns. If using the stated yarn you will need the following shades in the given amounts for your chosen size:
21 (dark blue); 2 balls in all sizes
FC47 (dark blue); 1 ball for size 32”, 2 balls for all other sizes
FC49 (light blue); 2 balls in all sizes
54 (dark grey); 1 ball in all sizes
27 (medium grey); 2 balls for 50” chest, 1 ball in all other sizes
203 (light grey); 1 ball for sizes 32” — 42”, 2 balls for sizes 44” — 50”
1 (white); 3 balls in all sizes
1402 (red); 1 ball in all sizes
46 (yellow); 1 ball in all sizes
118 green; 1 ball in all sizes
84 (purple); 1 ball in all sizes
If knitting the daffodils you will also require one ball of shade # 2 (orange).
You will need 3mm/US 2½ circular needles in 60cm/24″, 80cm/32″, and 100cm/40″ lengths, or the size required to get tension/gauge. This is 32 stitches and 40 rounds = 10cm/4″ in stranded pattern. For the armhole and neck edgings you will need a 2.5mm/US 1½ needle that is 80cm/32″ long.
